Announcement: Change of Venue

This week of September 30th marks my last week at IBM, and I couldn't be more excited to be moving on to the next phase of my career by joining a great team at Facebook! Yes, yes, I am bringing with me my maintainership of both Linux-kernel RCU and the Linux-kernel memory model, my editing of "Is Parallel Programming Hard, And, If So, What Can You Do About It?", and other similar items, just in case you were wondering. ;-)

Of course, it is only appropriate for me to express my gratitude and appreciation for the many wonderful colleagues at IBM, before that at Sequent, and more recently at Red Hat. Together with others in the various communities, we in our own modest way have changed the world several times over. It was a great honor and privilege to have worked with you, and I expect and hope that our path will cross again. For those in the Linux-kernel and C/C++ standards communities, our paths will continue to run quite closely, and I look forward to continued productive and enjoyable collaborations.

I also have every reason to believe that IBM will continue to be a valuable and essential part of the computing industry as it continues through its second century, especially given the recent addition of Red Hat to the IBM family.

But all that aside, I am eagerly looking forward to starting Facebook bootcamp next week. Which is said to involve one of those newfangled smartphones. ;-)

Facebook is lucky enough to have you. I heard that Facebook is doing an awesome job in the Linux space, adding you just enhance it more.

I wish you all the luck(do you really need one??) for your new endeavor.

So how does it feel when you join the Dark Side? :)

No chance, not a minute chance Facebook, a CIA-created shop (with
the help of an undereducated front man, Zukenberg), allows an
independent, un-subverted development of Linux.

Linux independence has already been trampled a long time ago,
though, with the cancer of systemd, microsoftization of its
desktop, introduction of 'cloud' storage almost by default in
Ubuntu (a parasitic project in itself) and with uncontrollable
chains of updates (with pre-compiled and un-checkable packets
from God knows what maintainers).

..and wasn't there a core Linux developer responsible for randomness
generation, who refused to implement some change needed by the
NSA? - he got arrograntly eliminated through some liberal political
campaign of a cranky and fringe female nobody had ever heard about
before in the developer circles..

Facebook will ensure the sabotage will continue unabated.

Well, if the NSA is pulling one way and CIA the other, I expect to be able to continue my focus on the technology. Some might call me naive, but in my experience, a little creative naivete can be a very powerful thing! ;-)

Not a problem at all, given that I have several flashlights. One of them is hand-cranked so that I don't even need to worry about running out of batteries. So I am set! :-)

Huge news!
Wow! Congratulations! (Other exclamations...) You didn't leak even a peep of your upcoming change when we met a week or so ago. I look forward to hearing about your new adventure as it unfolds.

Re: Huge news!
Thank you very much! And hey! I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise, now would I? ;-)

So, what do we have now? DaveJ? Well, Darcy, but he's kind of on a separate track with the filesystems.

I just heard the news. I'm glad to hear RCU is following you, but I have to say I was a bit surprised at the choice of the new location. Well, I will look forward to seeing the new great things you will be working on.

Congratulations on the next career move.
Facebook is lucky to have you. It seems odd thinking that you, of all people, are going to bootcamp. !! Enjoy the next phase. I was fortunate to get to work in the same universe with you, Paul!

Re: Congratulations on the next career move.
Thank you!

Me, I would not want to be the guy at Facebook with a asterisk beside his name saying "did not attend bootcamp". :-)
